Octagonal Tiles

This is a genre of patterns based upon a grid of alternating octagons and lozenges. It is a very solid looking arrangement overall and has been widely used, as it is quite easy to plot and adapt. The main source is the amount of subordination of the lozenges, which are usually visibly smaller than the octagons. On top of this, rich foliage develops within the confines if this grid, which never loses a static geometric character in spite of this.
